Quite different from high school, university has given me a totally disparate life experience. Active as I am, my impetus to take part in a great diversity of activities was not exclusively due to interest. I persist that anyone can make a difference by doing something good to others; it’s not all about altruism; sometimes self realization is to some extent determined by realizing others’ personal goals.
I spent a whole freshman year engaging myself in students’ financial assistance in which I helped my instructor with the distribution of financial aid for impoverished students. I searched for information about part time jobs and student loans in order to help these students finish their school. It made all my endeavors worthwhile when I felt strongly the optimism and aspiration for a bright future they exuded in the days we spent together. I was really touched when I noticed how much they cherished the opportunity to attend a university and how hard they worked in order to guarantee a better life for their families in the future.
Life is never fair though; there are always ways for us to bridge the gap and soothe the pain. I am happy that I could be helpful. Motivated by their personalities and hard work, I started to participate in volunteer work and social practice outside the classroom, lent a hand to those in need. Surprisingly all these experiences helped to cultivate my independence and social ability.
I remember when I got my first gold happiness filled in my heart. I realize now how crucial it is to be independent and never to take for granted the love from family and friends, because no one owes me anything. All I need to do is to love and keep repaying.
