For the whole undergraduate years I had spared no effort to accumulate knowledge from a variety of fields. As a navigation major, my field of study covers a wide range of subjects including mechanics, astronomy, international trade and so on. Along with these disciplines I was able to think of problems from different perspectives. Interested in business and trade, I took a lot of time studying the related knowledge. On campus I had participated in a research concerning the current situation of China’s shipbuilding industry and maritime commerce. My group members and I used what we had learned in class to analyze the factors affecting the industry and predicted changes in the future. We also accomplished several field surveys at shipping companies and dockyards in some costal cities. At last, our group worked out a set of constructive strategy aiming to improve the profits of shipping companies influenced by the recession of previous years. In researches like this, comprehensive understanding is quite in demand.
Also, my experience as a leader in a student’s club is of great value. When elected to be the next president of Maritime English Association (MEA), I was so surprised at first, and then I was quite unsure whether I could successfully handle my work in the coming year. However, nothing in the world is impossible if my mind is set on it. Step by step, I learned how to cooperate well with my team; I learnt to care about the team members and managed to improve the cohesive force with inspiration and love. A good team leader should focus on realizing each member’s personal goal and combine it with the collective one. Three years’ experience in the MEA is definitely a valuable treasure for me. On a personal level, I gained solid friendship and great pleasure. I consider this memory as one of the most wonderful part of my life.
During my internship this summer vacation, I experienced and got a better understanding of another kind of profession. While working in a powerful software company (hiSoft Ltd.) in Dalian, I was engaged in website testing. Our production; www.knoodle.com – is an Online Training and Learning Presentation Site which needs testing to ensure its sound performance. I also assisted in Business Analysis and User Experience Assessment. I used to think I could not do well in this field, however once I started I found it’s not so difficult, all One thing that impressed me most was that we should always stand on the viewpoint of our customers, and give priority to the clients’ needs. From what I have learned during the internship, I realize that the market demand is of great importance for any company to profit and analysis on market plays an active role in making effective business strategies. Considering there is a rapid growth in global trade and business, sound judgment in such a competitive age is increasingly crucial to the success of a business. This is why I think it is exciting and fascinating to pursue a study in this field. This degree will equip me for my career in the unpredictable and fast moving world of commerce.
